Maiden's
Mist - 2007

It's about time! The long-awaited 2007 Midsummer Pony Design
Contest winner is ready to be unveiled! She is a white unicorn
with a double horn and a lion's tail.

Maiden's Mist is quite a
complicated pony. Her tail was sculpted from scratch and an extra horn
was added. These were made from epoxy clay. This pony's base was
a 1st release Rarity the Unicorn. Her whole body was repainted with
many layers of pearlescent white paint. In this view, you can see her
gentle peach colored blush.

Maiden's Mist's eyes are gold/pink/turquoise
with black lashes and a tiny golden cross for an accent. They were
given a light coat of gloss varnish.

A picture of her non-display
side, showing her gradient-dyed hair in all of its glory! It is extra
long white nylon hair, first dipped in turquoise, then in yellow. I
curled her hair into four sections.
Here, you can also see her
sculpted tail. There is a wire base underneath, to give it more
support. It was painted in the same gradient colors as her mane.
I thought about making the tuft at the tip out of real hair, but it wouldn't
be as neat.

[above] Her hooves were rooted with fuzzy yarn that was teased apart, and
clear iridescent and turquoise holographic tinsel for extra sparkle.
[right] Her lovely symbol is a
maiden carrying a flower. It was painted mostly freehand in a very
dark brown color and shaded with antique golden highlights. I love her
peaceful expression!

Here she is again...the whole
package! The feet looked a bit weird at first, but I've really grown
fond of them. I wish the color was a bit "greener" to match
with the tail & mane. The difference is not that pronounced in
real life, though. Looking at the sketches again, perhaps I should
have included more white fuzz and less colored fuzz. Sculpted feet
might be nice too. It's tough trying to match the color of things with
different textures/materials! My
favorite part must be the double horn. The gold-on-white color scheme
is just classically beautiful! This pony was technically challenging
to make, and I must admit she's not 100% identical to the sketch, but I
enjoyed every single minute of it! ^_^ Maiden's
Mist is a CUSTOM
PONY, not affiliated with Hasbro, and this design will not be
repeated.
She is signed and dated under one hoof. This custom will be
moving to her new home with Jael, so she is NOT for sale.
